Our Mission
Atherton Dynamics exists to reduce low-probability, high-impact maritime risk through better measurement and better information.
We believe that modern vessels deserve stability intelligence grounded in real-world data, not static assumptions — especially when the cost of failure is catastrophic.
Why Atherton Dynamics Was Founded
Although modern vessels are equipped with advanced navigation and environmental sensing, stability assessment has traditionally been based on calculated conditions rather than continuous observation of the vessel’s dynamic response. Yet many of the most serious stability failures develop gradually, as conditions evolve during a voyage, over the course of a vessel’s service life, or as operational risk tolerance shifts over time.
- Atherton Dynamics was founded to address this gap by focusing on one underutilized signal: the vessel’s own motion.
- By analyzing subtle patterns in roll behavior, we aim to provide early, reliable insight into stability conditions that would otherwise remain hidden until too late.
A deliberate,
Evidence-Driven Approach
From the outset, Atherton Dynamics has taken a conservative development philosophy:
Multi-year research and development phase
Emphasis on physical measurement over modeling assumptions
Validation aboard multiple vessels over extended periods
Focus on minimizing false positives and operator fatigue through minimal crew interaction requirements
RollSense is not designed to replace crew judgment—it is designed to inform it.

Maturity
Real-Time Stability Monitoring (RTSM) for reporting Dynamic GM is a mature capability within RollSense:
Protected by robust intellectual property
Tested aboard multiple ships for approximately 1,000 real-world underway days and 300 days simulated in laboratory environment for design and validation
Demonstrated reliable results with positive operator feedback
Parametric and synchronous roll monitoring capability continues to be developed and refined through ongoing trials and laboratory testing.
Where We Are Today
Atherton Dynamics is conducting live trials of RollSense and aligning with early partners to refine deployment, reporting, and integration workflows.
Our infrastructure supports up to 15 vessels simultaneously, with near-term plans to scale to fleet-level deployments.
